The College of Northern Canada is Pleased to Add an Additional Centre To Its Array of Educational Centres

Environment: International Experts Convene in Ifrane for SWAT International Conference

International experts gathered in Ifrane city in the Middle Atlas mountains, for the annual Soil & Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) conference that is being held for the first time in Africa.
From March 4-8, Morocco’s Al Akhawayn University in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) and the Texas A&M AgriLife Research government agency, present the SWAT, a watershed-to-river basin model that simulates both ground and surface water quality and forecasts environmental effects of land use, management strategies, and climate change.

President of CNC Appointed to the International Organizing Committee of the Upcoming SWAT Conference

President of The College of Northern Canada, Dr. Chehrazade Aboukinane, has been selected to be part of the International Organizing Committee of the next SWAT Conference (Soil and Water Assessment Tool). Taking place in the picturesque mountain town of Ifrane, Morocco – from March 4th to 8th 2024 at Al Akhawayn University – it will be an extremely important gathering of international experts and institutions in the field of watershed and river basin management.
Originally developed by Texas A&M University’s AgriLife, SWAT is a powerful hydrological model designed for comprehensive watershed analysis. Among many other things, SWAT simulates the impact of land management practices and climate change on water quality, erosion, and agricultural productivity. This tool aids researchers, environmentalists, and policymakers in making informed decisions about watershed management, optimizing land use, and assessing the effectiveness of conservation strategies. It is the most widely used modeling software of its kind in the world – having been cited in over 6,000 peer-reviewed journals to date.  
Dr. Aboukinane has been a long-standing member of the scientific committee for over 20 years given her extensive experience in environmental compliance, environmental assessment, project management, technical training, and academic leadership. CNC is extremely proud to have her lead its involvement in being one of the international organizers for this prestigious international conference.
